The winners of the T-Shirt Design and Short Film Making competitions organised by the Ministry for Education and Employment as part of the Living Languages… Open up new worlds campaign have been announced. Competition winners were invited to participate at the European Day of Languages Celebration event organised on the 30th of October.

Well done to all students who participated in these competitions. Special thanks go to all teachers and parents of the participating students for their support and encouragement.

T-Shirt Design Competition Winners


Category A: Primary School Years 3-4 Rhea Mugliett, Sacred Heart School, St Julians
Category B: Primary School Years 5-6  Yasmin El Nasar, Qormi San Gorg, St Ignatius College
Category C: Middle School  Years 7-8  Jamie Scerri Richard, St Edwards College

The overall winner of the competition is Jamie Scerri Richard, St Edwards College.The overall winner received an additional 50 Euro book voucher and 10 t-shirts to distribute to his family and friends.

Short Film Making Competition Winners


The winners of the Post-Secondary School Category are students from Junior College, Msida, with the film entry “Breaking Barriers”.


The winners of the Secondary School Category as well as Overall Winners of the film competition are students Kurt Caruana, James Morrison, Liam Pace, Luke Buttigieg and Edward Lee Agius from St Michael’s School, Sta Venera with the film entry “The Unknown Language”.


All winners received a Gift Bag with a number of freebies including t-shirts, pens, speakers etc. Gifts were kindly sponsored by the European Commission. 

The Overall Winning Film was re-shot using industry standard equipment with the support of local industry professionals (director, screenwriter, etc.). Students from the winning entry had the opportunity to be protagonists in the professional re-make of the film. Special thanks go to students from St Joseph School in Sliema for taking part in the film re-make.
